Jesus, thank you for your values that contradict the goals of the world:
God, impoverish our hearts. Strip us bare. It will probably hurt, but we don’t want to continue trying to puff ourselves up and to pretend that we know what we’re doing. We need you and only you, God. On our own, we can’t do anything, but with you, the kingdom of Heaven is available to us!
God, crumble the walls of our hearts. Break us so that we can be rebuilt in you. You created us in your image, but we have distorted that image by bending it, adding stuff to it, and getting it all dirty. Cleanse us and restore us to the glimmering, empty cups that you created us to be, ready to be filled with your love. We accept your unconditional love. We accept your correction. We celebrate being poor in spirit, God, because this poverty brings us closer to you than we have ever been before. Thank you, Jesus. We love you!
Lord, we lift up Mary’s prayer:
Please look after my sister Graciela who had a stroke recently. She is so over burdened, please let your Holy Spirit come over her and fill her with Your Peace.
I ask this in your Heavenly Name.
