Agreement in Prayer

In Matthew 18:18-19 Jesus says, "'Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. 20 For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.'"  We invite you to regularly agree with us in prayer so that our prayers are more effective. The reality is that when you read our prayers here and pray with us at home on your own, you are agreeing with us in prayer. However, if you post your prayer on our site, other people can agree with you in prayer, and in that way, we can gather together online. Thanks ahead of time for your prayers.

Daily Prayer, Wednesday, November 30, 2005

Father, thank you for your plan for our lives. You are the one, sovereign God, and you are all powerful in every aspect of our lives. We want to turn it all over to you, but there are parts of us, that we're so reluctant to release. We might not even know what it is that we're holding on to, but we can feel that part of our flesh is ruling us more than it should. Holy Spirit, sweep through us. Help us to see what it is that we're unable to let go of, and then minister to our hearts so that we can trust you in that area.

Speak to us through your word today as we study. Show us something new about yourself or our relationship with you.

Daily Prayer, Monday, November 28, 2005

Jesus, we thank you and praise you for the day we've had. Thank you for being with us always. Give us rest tonight. Give comfort and peace to those who need it. Lord, when we feel like life is spinning out of control, when we can't find our own way, and we're not strong enough, your peace that surpasses understanding is like oxygen to asthmatic. Let us breath in your peace tonight. We have nothing to fear. We have your love. God, even if we've turned our backs on you for such a long time, you're still there for us right now. Thank you for your unconditional love. You are the perfect Father, and you're here to comfort us tonight.

Daily Prayer, Sunday, November 27, 2005

Jesus, you are so wonderful. Thank you for pursuing us; for running after us. You are the one powerful God, and yet you jealously desire a close relationship with each and every one of us. That's just so mind blowing! Father, we are opening our hearts to you, we're running in your direction and want to come crashing into your arms.

Holy Spirit, cut the chains that remain on our lives, release us from every kind of spiritual slavery, including religious legalism, so that we can live freely in your will. Search our hearts and show us how you want to heal and free us. That's so awesome that you know our hearts better than we can, God. You are so amazing. We worship you, Lord. We love you, Jesus. We love you, and we want that love to continue to grow.

Daily Prayer, Saturday, November 26, 2005

Jesus, thank you for this beautiful day. Your magnificence is all around us. We just need to look at your creation with the right heart. Lord, continue your work within us, refining us with your purifying fire. We're calling out to you, "Draw us closer to you!"

Teach us how to pray. Help us to learn to pray without having to say anything - sometimes we just need to be with you, and many times that's all you desire, but it's hard to quiet our flesh. Help us to do that, Holy Spirit.

Lord, we offer up our cares this morning. We give you the strife in our marriages, we give you our health concerns, we offer up all the stuff in our lives that is keeping us from being closer to you, and we burn it at your alter. We want you and only you, Jesus.

Daily Prayer, Friday, November 25, 2005

God, on the busiest shopping day of the year, we ask that you would help us to keep our minds set on you, not the things of this world. Matthew 6:25-34 says, "So I tell you, don't worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn't life consist of more than food and clothing?" We are so frequently swept away by the day to day concerns of this world. Lord, material things are just stuff. Let us be more mindful of your kingdom on earth than the earthly things that surround us.

Lord, you call us the salt of the earth. Don't let us lose our saltiness. Holy Spirit, well-up strongly within us. We want to be the people that you have called us to be.

Daily Prayer, Thursday, November 24, 2005

Jesus, this is our prayer of Thanksgiving for you! Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice that saved us from the penalty of sin. We praise you, Jesus! Without you, we would be eternally separated from our heavenly Father. We just can't thank you enough. The thought of your pain on the cross, not due to any sin of your own, but because of each and every sin that we have committed, makes us weep, but your resurrection from the grave makes us rejoice. Thank you for conquering death. It's the thing in our lives that we are most thankful for.

Thank you for loving us eternally and unconditionally. Just as we are, Jesus. Thank you.

Thank you for all the blessings that you have given us. Thank you for family and friends. Thank you for shelter and clothing. Thank you for food. We are so blessed to even be able to see this website. For all the things that we take for granted, God we recognize that we're blessed. Thank you, Father.

It's a ritual that some people roll their eyes at, but Given Life views Thanksgiving as a reminder. Daily Prayer, Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Father, on the eve of Thanksgiving day, it's hard to think of anything but what we are thankful for. You have blessed us so richly. Tonight, we pray for the people in the world who have little to be thankful for except for the fact that they are alive. Be with those people tonight. Comfort them. Tell them that you love them so much. We pray that they would see where they can be rich, in knowing you. Show them that despite their circumstances in the world, you have a purpose for their lives. Thank you that Thanksgiving isn't just about being thankful for what we have on this earth.

Jesus, thank you for this day. Be Lord over our finances, God. Our money is not our money. It's your money, and we pray that you would make us good stewards of that money. Sometimes we're so foolish with our money, but that makes us sick, especially with the facts out there about money and its correlation to divorce. We say, "Not in our families!", God. Remind us to pray about money, Holy Spirit. For those of us that are younger, give us your supernatural wisdom regarding money so that as we age, our financial status is far better than that of our peers, and only because we're seeking you when we open our pocket books. We want you to be number one in ever part of our lives, Jesus. Be Lord of our finances.

Daily Prayer, Monday, November 21, 2005

Jesus, today we pray for the members of our family that are lost or who have strayed away from you. It tears us apart to know that our loved one is going through life without having a relationship with you. Even more so, it scares us to think of a family member spending eternity in Hell. Ultimately, it's his/her choice whether or not to follow you, and we know that you're not going to force them to believe, but we thank you that you desire a relationship with them. We pray that you would bring them into a position where the choice is obvious, where they are hurting, and where they know that you're there for them if they'll only ask for your love and forgiveness.

We also pray for members of our family that have fallen away from a right relationship with you. God, it happens to almost all of us from time, but it's hard to see a family member living out of your will. Help us to know how to help. Lord, we don't want to be a hindrance, nor do we want to stand by and do nothing if you would have us speak to him/her. Right now, Holy Spirit, we're doing the only thing that we know that we should be doing: praying. Touch our family members' hearts. Let them know that you miss them, and that you are waiting with open arms. We love these people so much, but it doesn't compare to how much you love them. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Father, we come seeking you again this morning. We pursue you as a lover pursues his love. You are our life's breath. We adore you. We want to know more about you. We desire intimacy with you like we've never known before. We want you to be our second and first nature. Pierce through our flesh like bright light pierces a cloud. We want to be like you. You are our beloved Father. You are precious. Now we wait on you, Lord. Speak to us. Hold us in your arms. As a father kisses his child on the forehead, we wait for your kiss, Jesus.

Jesus, thank you for marriage and for your plan for a family. In a world where, sadly, the family of the bible frequently falls apart, we still appreciate the rolls that you have created for us in families. Thank you for the bond between husband and wife. The cycle of support, strength, submission is so miraculous. Sometimes it's extremely miraculous! Father, strengthen the marriages of the world. Let our natural roles become more desirable in our hearts. Help us to protect your plan for our families by following your example. Holy Spirit, beckon mothers and fathers to your word for instruction and admonition. Let us bring your love into our homes.

Daily Prayer, Thursday, November 17, 2005

Lord, as we go to work today, help us to do good work in your name. Just as Colossians 3:23 says, that we should "Work hard and cheerfully at whatever [we] do, as though [we are] working for the Lord rather than for people." It's so easy for the workplace to absorb our focus. We're often totally different people at work. Holy Spirit, well up strongly in our hearts throughout the day, reminding us that we are to be the salt of the earth. Our workplaces are such opportunities to share your truth. Remind us of this, Father. We want to do good work in your name, and we want to do your work, wherever we are. We love you so much, Jesus. Help us to worship you at work.

The Christian teachers of the world. That they would have the courage to share Christ in their lives with their students whenever they can. The separation of church and state makes their jobs difficult. They are frequently forced to use curriculum that they don't believe in, such as evolution, and yet they are often prohibited from discussing Christian values when topics such as sexual education arise. The teachers are also faced with students in incredibly difficult living situations. Pray that these teachers would be diligent in seeking you and that they would pray for their students daily. Pray for a special helping of patience and wisdom for these Christian teachers.

Daily Prayer, Wednesday, November 16, 2005

Father, thank you for another beautiful Fall day. Your creation is so beautiful. Help us to fully appreciate what you've created. We pray for those of us who are at war in foreign countries. Protect our troops. Help the people in charge to find a way to end this conflict. I don't know much about the situation in the middle east, specifically Iraq, but I know that there are lots of families that are hurting because a man or woman is out of country or has been killed in the line of duty. Jesus, lay a healing hand on the hearts of those families, and bring their loved ones home soon.

We pray also for the people of Iraq. Bring them the supplies that they need to recover from this war. Let the war be something that you use to spread the gospel through that country. We can't imagine how hard it would be to come to know you over there, but neither can we imagine living over there without your strength to rely on.

We praise you that some day, there will be no more fighting amongst us. Some day, your sons and daughters will gather at your throne to worship you. You are holy and mighty, Father, and we bless your name throughout the earth. We proclaim your sovereignty in Iraq and all the countries of the world.

Jesus, draw us closer to you. We are seeking you, Jesus, as Hosea 6:3 says, "Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him! Then he will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring." We are pressing in, waiting for you. We're listening and opening our hearts to you. We love you. It's the one thing that is awe-inspiring in us; how much we love you. But it doesn't come close to how much you love us, and that just blows our minds. Thank you for that closeness, Jesus. Thank you. Thank you. We love you.

The people of the United States. Let us be a more unified nation. We are diverse, we do have different opinions, but pray against blind hatred that abounds, particularly where politics are concerned. Pray for a renewed respect for our presidents (past, present, and future). The second chapter of 1 Peter says, "16 You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom is not an excuse to do evil. You are free to live as God's slaves. 17 Show respect for everyone. Love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God. Show respect for the king. 18 You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters. Do whatever they tell you not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are harsh." This is an attitude that is lost in the U.S.. Pray that it would come back.

Help us to be more mindful of your presence every day. There are areas of our lives that we have not yet handed over to you. Ultimately, God, we want you to have them all. God, thank you for your ever-present hand in our lives. We are your sheep, and John 10:27 say that we recognize your voice, you know us, and all we have to do is follow you. In Deuteronomy 13:4, you said to obey your commands, listen to your voice, and cling to you. Father, when we're in the right frame of heart, there is nothing more empowering and comforting than to know that you're in control, and to simply rest in that knowledge.

Holy Spirit, quiet our hearts and minds, helps us to do more than just have a one-sided conversation with you. Help us to listen to your voice. We can hear what your direction for our lives is, and then we just need to obey. Help us to listen to you. Oh, God we're listening. Thank you, Father.

Daily Prayer, Friday, November 11, 2005

Jesus, today we pray for the men of the world who browse the Internet every day. Christian men and non-Christian men alike are targeted with seduction and temptation. Guard their hearts against the temptation to look at pornographic websites. Give these men a burning desire to know you more and to run as fast as they can to you when that temptation arises. Lord, we thank you that your word says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that you are faithful, and that you will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that we can't stand up against it. When the men of the world are tempted by explicit material online, you will show them a way out so that they don't have to give in to it.

Daily Prayer, Thursday, November 10, 2005

Father, thank you for this day. Thank you for the lives that you have given us. You knew us before we were conceived, you know the plans that you have for us. Plans to prosper us, and not to harm us. Help us to see you in every aspect of our lives. Lower our cynical guards, and to realize how simple and yet complete your love is for us. You love us unconditionally. Unconditionally...I doubt that we'll ever truly know what that means. Despite the many times that we have turned our backs on you, no matter how many times we have sinned and the many times to come that we will sin, you have always and will always welcome us back to you with open arms. When that sinks deep into our hearts, we melt in your goodness. You are the root of all good, and we thank you for the life that you have given us to serve you. Our lives are yours, Lord. Please use them as you will.
